If you've never been to a chiropractor before, it's completely normal to feel a little unsure about what's going to happen. Maybe a friend recommended you try it, or you've been dealing with back pain, neck stiffness, or a sports injury that just won't go away. Whatever brought you here — you're making a great decision.

At Juke Chiropractic & Sports Rehab in Boise, ID, we see first-time patients every week. Here's exactly what you can expect from your first visit with Dr. Jon Juker.

Before You Arrive

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing — athletic wear works great. You'll want to be able to move freely during your evaluation. If you have any recent X-rays, MRI results, or medical records related to your concern, bring those along. They help Dr. Juker get a fuller picture right away.

Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early to complete a short intake form. This covers your health history, current symptoms, and what you're hoping to get out of your care.

Your Initial Consultation

The first part of your appointment is a conversation. Dr. Juker will sit down with you and ask about what's been going on — where you're feeling pain or tension, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and how it's affecting your daily life.

This isn't a rushed 5-minute intake. Dr. Juker takes the time to actually understand your situation before recommending anything. Many patients tell us this alone is different from what they've experienced elsewhere.

The Physical Evaluation

Next, Dr. Juker will perform a thorough physical assessment. Depending on what you're dealing with, this may include:

  • Posture and spinal alignment assessment — checking how your spine looks and moves
  • Range of motion testing — how far you can move without pain or restriction
  • Orthopedic and neurological tests — to identify the root cause of your symptoms
  • Muscle and soft tissue evaluation — especially relevant for sports injuries or chronic tension

If X-rays are needed, we can discuss that at this stage. Most first visits don't require them, but Dr. Juker will let you know if they'd be helpful.

Your Treatment Plan

After the evaluation, Dr. Juker will explain exactly what he found and what he recommends. He'll walk you through a personalized treatment plan in plain language — no confusing medical jargon, just a clear picture of what's going on and how we can help.

You'll never feel pressured into a long-term package on your first visit. The goal is to make sure chiropractic care is the right fit for you before moving forward.

Your First Adjustment (If Appropriate)

In many cases, your first treatment will happen during this same visit. A chiropractic adjustment involves applying a precise, controlled force to specific joints in the spine or extremities to restore proper movement and reduce pain.

For most people, it feels like a relief — a release of built-up tension. You may hear a popping or cracking sound, which is simply gas releasing from the joint (similar to cracking your knuckles). It's completely normal and not a sign of anything going wrong.

At Juke Chiropractic, Dr. Juker is trained in multiple techniques — including Active Release Technique (ART), which is especially effective for athletes and active individuals. He'll choose the approach that's best suited for your body and your goals.

After Your Appointment

It's common to feel immediate relief after your first adjustment. Some people feel a little sore the next day — similar to how you might feel after a new workout. This is your body adapting and is completely normal.

Dr. Juker will often give you specific exercises or stretches to do at home between visits. These aren't generic — they're tailored to your body and your goals, so you're making progress even outside the clinic.

How Many Visits Will I Need?

This varies depending on what you're dealing with. Some patients feel significant improvement in 2–3 visits. Others with chronic conditions benefit from ongoing care over several weeks or months.

Dr. Juker will give you a realistic, honest timeline based on your specific situation — not a one-size-fits-all answer.
